 Agritourism

Agritourism combines South Dakota’s largest economic industries, agriculture and tourism. Agritourism links an agricultural business, like a farm or ranch, with tourism, to entertain and educate visitors.

Agritourism can include a wide range of activities, including outdoor recreation, hospitality services, entertainment, and education. It could be a ranch stay and tour, paired with horseback riding … or visiting a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, hunting, fishing – or whatever works best with your operation.

So many aspects of our day-to-day lives, like watching the grass move like waves across the rolling prairie hills or star gazing on a cloudless summer night, are things many folks travel to experience. Our area is so rich in beautiful landscapes, history, tradition, and dedicated ag operators that agritourism is a logical opportunity in Timber Lake and its surrounding areas.

Now more than ever, consumers want to know where their food comes from. Agritourism allows us to showcase our hard work and heart. It shows that agriculture is more than just a business, it is our heartbeat and our legacy.

Due to agritourism’s growth in popularity, South Dakota Department of Tourism is putting heavy focus on growing the agritourism industry in our state and has established an Agritourism Work Group.
