South Dakota is every hunter and outdoor enthusiast’s dream with both public land, tribal trust land and privately owned land open for hunting.

Visit South Dakota Game, Fish, & Parks website for maps of public land, private land, a printable hunting atlas by county, and GPS downloads. This site also has access to purchasing hunting licenses and permits, hunting season dates, and other GFP information.

Cheyenne River Sioux Game Fish and Parks Office is responsible for managing wildlife, fisheries, and recreational resources on all trust lands within the boundaries of the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in north central South Dakota. Their tribal seasons are separate from the state of South Dakota, and they have their own licensing system. To purchase a license, you can visit one of their authorized vendors or do so online here. Standing Rock Sioux Game and Fish Program seeks to provide the maximum outdoor opportunity while protecting its natural resources on the trust lands within the boundaries of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North and South Dakota. The tribal hunting seasons are separate from the states of North Dakota and South Dakota, and they have their own licensing program. The Limit Lodge & Cabins

Located in Timber Lake, The Limit Lodge & Cabins is perfect for overnight or extended stays.

The Limit Cabins offer five separate cabins that each have two queen beds, small fridge, microwave, and a full bathroom. Each cabin has its own parking, picnic table, and charcoal grill.

The Limit Lodge is a remodeled church that offers three separate rental spaces. The basement sleeps 12 and includes a full kitchen, shower and bathroom, large living room, and dining room.

Upstairs there are two apartment-style rentals. Each unit has two bedrooms with a queen bed in each, full bathroom, full kitchen, and living room with two couches. All rentals include WiFi.

Prairie Butte Lodge

Prairie Butte Lodge is located about 15 miles southwest of Timber Lake.

The Farmhouse sleeps up to 15 guests, and is a perfect location for family reunions, weekend getaways, weddings, birthdays, or any gatherings. There are five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, large dining room, and living room area. Across from The Farmhouse is the lodge that has a spacious bar, gaming and entertainment area, four bathrooms, and four twin beds. Pheasant hunts are available on private hunting land.

Camping Hook-ups at Timber Lake City Park

There are two RV 50-amp electric and water hook-up spots located at the Timber Lake City Park along the north side of town. The City Park offers shaded picnic table areas, bathroom facilities, and beautiful playground equipment. An RV waste dump is also available on site.

The Rack Shack

The Rack Shack is eight miles north of Firesteel and is great for large groups. The house has five bedrooms with nine beds and sleeps 10 guests comfortably. It includes a full kitchen, two bathrooms, dining room, and living room.

The rental price includes access to private hunting ground for pheasants, deer, prairie dogs, and coyotes.

Timber Lake Elk Lodge

The Elk Lodge is beautiful building located about five miles south of Timber Lake overlooking the Little Moreau River lands. These rooms are hotel style with two queens or a king bed and a full bathroom, fridge, and microwave in each room.

Lodging only is not available September-November as it is reserved for those hunting with us.

The owners of the lodge, the Lindskov Family, offer a variety of hunting experiences, including elk, bison, deer, pheasant, and prairie dog hunts.

T & J’s Bunkhouse

Located right on Timber Lake’s main street, this bunkhouse is available for booking via Airbnb.


SD West River Adventures

Located in Firesteel, a 10-minute drive west from Timber Lake along highway 20, West River Adventures offers two houses off the highway that are ideal for hunters and visitors. One house can sleep 10+ guests and includes two living rooms, a full kitchen, and two full bathrooms. The second house sleeps 5+ guests and includes a full kitchen, full bathroom, and a half bath.

The Bunkhouse Inn

The Bunkhouse Inn is located in Isabel, a 20-minute drive west of Timber Lake on highway 20. The Bunkhouse has eight rooms available in the motel, and two cabins directly behind the motel. They also have a large home that is perfect for large groups, and two smaller homes that work great for extended stays or when you want a full kitchen and house experience.

Hell Creek Outfitting LLC

Hell Creek Outfitting offers guided rifle and archery hunts on private land in Corson County, South Dakota. Hunting includes antelope, whitetail and mule deer, coyotes, and prairie dogs.

The Firesteel Creek Lodge

The Firesteel Creek Lodge is fewer than five miles north of Isabel along highway 65. Three buildings on location offer 22 rooms for guests. Along with lodging, the Lindskov family offers hunting packages for upland birds (pheasants, partridge, grouse), deer, elk, buffalo, and prairie dogs.
